I have had the pleasure of teaching barre to the Fernie Ghostriders Hockey Team and busting the notion that barre is only for women. These guys plie, pulse and push their limits each week and see the benefit of ballet to their skating muscles. I love their team spirit and high octane energy! We incorporate a lot of martial arts and boxing to barre to challenge balance, discilipline and focus. Strong men barre!

Congratulations Vanessa as she reopens the Castle on First doors as SOAR Studios on September 9th! I am so proud to be part of the changes and also to continue as an instructor of BarreFIT at SOAR. Creating a unified business under one roof of the Castle has always been a goal and I am so happy that SOAR will continue to thrive with the support of the community of Fernie. Check out the schedule at www.soarstudios.ca and sign up for a class - 3 studios | 2 doors | 1 movement .
I am honoured to be featured in the Kootenay Business Magazine. Thanks Fernie for your support! Have a read below...
Can a picture tell a thousand words? I believe it can. To convey an inspiring message and evoke a powerful emotion is not an easy task when attempting to create an image for the Castle on First. However, the words helped clarify the picture. The words brought to focus the meaning of what we created in such a short time. Inspiration, empowerment, connection, collaboration and freedom effortlessly spilled onto the page that Christa set before me. She deliberately put that pen in my hand to calm a mind on a whirlwind journey charted only several months before.
Even though the words were there, they too were caught up in that powerful breeze, spiralling uncontrollably. Those spirals are part of the story. The way in which we are all united, on our own separate course but connecting at certain parts of the circle. The four distinct colours are important, each symbolic of what moves us. Turquoise for the energy of dance, amethyst for the spirituality of yoga, emerald for the traditions of eastern philosophy and amber for the fire of fitness. These are the jewels of a crown so befitting a castle. The simplicity of the font must be noticed. We are not fanciful; we are recognizable. This is a basic fact of understanding ourselves and our own wellbeing. Keep it simple, keep it wholesome and our message will endure. It is a space that inspires. We have room to spread our wings and fly. Our students feel the same. The mala beads in the hands show what we’re made of. We are real. These earthy beads strung together in an endless circle shows that we cannot be complete without the one beside us. Feel the beads and you will notice the uniqueness of each one. The texture and character so beautiful in its distinctiveness, like each of us with a message equally special. So while this not a thousand words, I look forward to seeing the pen in each of your hands, witnessing the words that effortlessly flow onto the page as each of you contribute to the evolving story of the Castle on First.
